Well after reinstalling the original coil and ignition module. I just returned from a couple hour ride with my son and all is well. So time will tell if this was the issue. I am betting on the coil.

Yes there is a filter in the tank. All is OK with the fuel delivery as I just had the tank off this winter to replace all the top end gaskets as I had a base gasket leaking. Fuel was flowing fine when I drained the tanks. Thanks for the reply though.

thats what i was thinking as well. couple of easy ways to test it. ride until it quits again and then shoot it with a shot from a can of compressed air to cool it, if it starts right back up and runs fine, there ya go.....

or you can heat it with a hairdryer and when it gets hot, does it quit? if so, well.....

I had the exact same symptoms when I had a 98 RK, and after multiple times back at the Harley shop, with me suggesting that it might be the ignition coil right from the start, and the mechanics insisting it was in the gas system, it turned out to be the ignition coil. And the fact that your bike now seems to be running with a replacement for the coil strengthens the argument.
