Default Short??

Need some help guys. I have this posted in the evo section, but thought I would get a better response here as there is way more traffic. 93 softail custom, evo motor. Tonight while riding the bike just cut out while cruising, no issue with the lights or anything like that. I know it is not a gas issue as I smelled gas while cranking it and I had a half tank. Even put it on reserve and it wouldn't start for a while. After sitting for a while the bike started and ran for a couple of miles and then cut out again. It did this a couple of times and I was able to get her home. No spit and sputter just like you reached down and pulled the wires. I know the tank is clean as I just had it off while replacing all the top end gaskets. Since the gasket job the bike has ran about 1000 miles. I have a service manual and checked the coil and both the primary and secondary ohm readings were within limits. I will go thru the complete ignition ohm tests tomorrow.
Any ideas?

I agree with your thinking that it is probably electrical however just for your info I had a Shovel that acted about the same way one day while riding. After a whole lot of roadside fiddling at different locations I finally found that the carb had sucked part of the air filter into the throat and it would sometime start and idle but shut down when it needed more air.

I installed a Accel performance coil and power curve programmable Ignition module back in 94 and still have the originals. Will install these both today and see what the outcome is.

Same exact thing happened to a buddy a few weeks ago while we were out for a ride. It ended up being his stator connector came unplugged.

Yep, I had this happen in the past to me as well. This was the 1st thing I checked. But thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it.

On my 92 FXR the ingition CB went bad bike just shut off and that was it. Would not start I had to bypass the CB to get me home.

Does the 93 have a CB for ignition? Might want to try there first if it dose have one.
