I'm planning a trip from Central FL to Americade, and am going to take 2 days getting up to the Lake George Area. I'm looking at stopping for the evening in NJ (that will put me at about 15 hours from where I live). Does anyone have any recommendations for a city to stay in, in the Trenton/East Brunswick area. I'd prefer not to have my bikes stolen while I rest for the remainder of the journey.
Wow! That's some heavy duty miles for the first day!! Are you doing 95 all the way?
There's a couple of small detours that could make your route much more pleasant. Think about gettting off 95 in Fredricksburg, VA and taking 17 over to 81 and forgetting about 95 from just south of DC all the way up to 84 in Connecticut. Just avoid New Jersey and all of it's splendor.
81 isn't perfect, there are still some 18 wheelers to contend with, but it's so much better than that megalopolis from DC through Jersey.
What's the big deal if it takes you even another day? Don't kill your self getting there. Once you get there, you want to be able to enjoy the beautiful area of Upstate NY and VT!!
I'm actually trailering up (I know I'm going to catch crap for this one), and time is an issue. I'm on a drill team that is performing at Americade, and we have practice on Thursday. That combined with limited time off from work are all the factors in play. So I'm thinking leaving a 5-7 hour trip for the second day should be plenty.
That's a pretty hard ride. DC north on 95 could be a real problem. I always go up 81 to 287 to 87 to 684 and then up I think it is 22 in NY. The last time through DC I had a 5 hour delay. Stuck right on the Interstate. If you have to overnight, stay out of the big cities.
