Just picked up a 09 RG CVO and the seat is actually pretty comfortable, but haven't ridden over 200 miles in a day yet. I like the look of the seat and have ordered a chopped tour pak with the matching passenger backrest. Would love to hear some thoughts on sending this seat off to Mean City Cycles. Who's done this and what do you think?
I've got a Corbin Dual Touring with a backrest and love it. Well made, and IMO very comfortable on short and long rides. Just ordered a Corbin Solo, can wait until UPS shows up. Jenni at Tri-County hooked me up, if you order a Corbin definitely give her a call!
I have a custom C&C Sport Tour on my '09 RG. Great looking/felling seat and not bad for medium rides. I just got home Friday from a 2200 mile ride and my butt is still sore from that seat.
I too am looking for a different seat; perhaps a Mustang touring seat - I've had good luck with them on past bikes...
I've done over 6,000 miles in the last 6 weeks, all on the stock seat on my 2007 Ultra. I guess I'm just lucky. I can ride that thing for 12 hours straight with no discomfort.
I have a BadLander that I run on my RoadKing that has been reworked and gel filled that is good for up to about 100 - 150 miles at a clip which is fine for that bike. I also have a Sundowner that was reworked by the same guys that I can use for longer rides. On my Road Glide I have been using the stock seat with a rider and passenger backrests and it gets the job done, but I am considering matching the backrests to my Sundowner and moving it over to my RoadGlide since I don't run it on my King all that often.
I run a Mustang touring dual...I have a Airhawk and use it on long trips but not for the whole trip...i alternate between it and just the sheepskin... Capillary closure is the main problem...Pressure relief is the name of the game...If you can keep it below 32 mg of mercury on the Braden scale you won't have any problem....I sell medical supplies to nursing homes and pressure relief is #1 in wound care...Keep the blood flowing good and skin won't breakdown...
2001 Ultra - I am 6'2", 34" inseam - stock seat was awful - pushed me forward, crotch bound...terrible! Many of us taller riders have been there. Mustang touring - no better. Had stock seat modified - a bit better, but no real fix. HD Tallboy - much better overall, but just not great on a long day. Cyclopedic - NICE! A bit wide, but really great seat postion and nice on a long ride!! For now, I am comfortable, but still want to try a Zep!
