Default Regulator Chrome cover problem?!?!?

Has anyone ever heard of a chrome reg. cover being the culprit for a Reg. crapping out? I heard both sides of the story on this one. Whatcha think?

Why would a chrome cover make a regulator fail? The regulator is already encased so that rules out heat.

I've heard that HD doesn't recommend the chrome covers on newer bikes because they hold heat and can lead to premature failure of the voltage regulator. I have no idea if it's true or not though!

Default chrome cover

I have a buddy that had his replaced under warranty. They said that it wasn't helping anything, but still covered it. The Chrome regulators are not covered under warranty, don't ask my how I know this...

I feel that it may contain the heat more with the cover on in addition to the original cover.

If I was worried about heat being an issue, I wouldn't start my bike. I've been running mine with a cover for about 1 year now. No issues. H-D sells, it, I bought it.

I would argue that they would be liable anyway if their product "the chrome cover" caused the failure of another one of their products.

I have a buddy that owns a successful indy shop. He is a pretty sharp guy when it comes to HD trouble shooting as far as what causes what to fail. For years, he has claimed that chrome covers are a cause of regulator failures. He says they trap the heat. He says he sees more failed regulators with covers than not.
