On the plus side it would seem that there is indeed scope to tune the calibration of the system.

Also, in the service bulletin step 2 is to "complete ABS service within Digital Technician". Any techys out there know what this does?

SG - is yours an 08 or an 09?
I'm on an 08

It's not a recall and it's not really new.

It's simply a software update for 2008 models that recalibrates the ABS. I had my bike's ECM flashed with this update a couple of months ago under warranty.

Did it make any difference?

I haven't activated my ABS since the recalibration so I can't comment on the difference, but what I've been told is that it delays the onset of the ABS from the previous calibration. Apparently, they felt the initial calibration was a little too aggressive and would activate the ABS slightly sooner than needed.

Default ABS Update

I have noticed that the rear brake ABS does not activate as soon with the new update. So, yes I like the change. The old software seem to activate with less rear brake pressure applied. Not that was unsafe, just annoying, at best. The new software is also to accept the application of Michelin tires on the tourers and the run flats on the Police models. Dealer did the reflash without a problem. Even though it's only a service bulletin, they have to do it if you ask for it. Once your 08 is out of waranty though, they don't.

The service bulletin was from a February thread here.

Fwiw, I had my dealer check the ABS software and he said it was the latest version. So this update didn't apply to my '09 bike even though like you I think the ABS triggers too soon.

Anyhow, why not have your dealer check yours against the service bulletin? I'd be interested in hearing the results since yours is an '09 as well.

Edit: any idea how can we find more about that ABS calibration you mentioned?

It is for 08's go to your dealer and have them do it. If they say they do not know anything about it have them do there job and find out. I did mine last week. It reprograms the system less sensitive and allows it to still function in some capacity if one part fails, now I do not know all the technical words but that is it in a nutshell. Also if you are running a power commander or other efi it will need to be disconnected to do download and unless the dealer did the install they will try to charge you for disconnect and reconnect so you may want to remove it before you go if you did it yourself. And make sure if you have a HD cert that they do not charge you for a new one this is there fix and it is covered under warranty, so you should not pay a thing other than what you buy in the store while you wait.

Will this update affect the tuned map I'm running now after a dyno tune using my SERT Pro?

It should not but make sure with the tech knows this before hand because if it ask him to reflash the system and he does then the program is gone. Can you copy the program in it now to a disk? If so do so just in case. Also where was the dyno done? Do they keep the map? and if so ask them for a copy so you have it just in case anything ever happens to your ecm and you need to reprogram it. Dyno maps that you pay for should be stored in there system or ask them for a copy of the map.
