Instead of loud pipes, I went with a loud sound system. Hogtunes fairing speakers, Tweeter pod and fairing lower speakers plus amp. Everyone hears me coming now.
Ditto this!
Since I got my ultra with stock pipes, I have learned to enjoy the quieter pipes. Honestly, the Harley stock pipes have a nice throaty (but not too loud) sound compared to stock pipes on all the Jap bikes I have owned. I always put pipes on them because the stockers sounded like a sewing machine.
The best advice I can tell you is, wait until you run into someone who has the sound your looking for than buy them. Orrrrrrrrrrrrrr,, you'll be like me I have installed 3 different sets, some were to loud, others to tinney, and they just didnt sound right to me. So I took the advice of a member here and waited, I ran into a bagger at a meet, with the sound I was after, he was running Cycle Shacks with stainless steel packing, so now my journey is over and I just love-em. A very deep throaty sound, and half the money I paid for others,,,, I could have saved a lot of money, if I would have just slowed down.. GOOD Luck TIm
+1 on the thunders,i have some on order for my 09,had em on my 06 as well but went to a 2-1 fatcat with the bigbore. Now i will have both of my favorite exhaust set ups...yay me!!!!
Go on the engine, exhaust thread on here and click on the "sound posting of exhaust systems"thread my thundersheaders is the first post, also go on you tube and pull up thunderheaders for some sound clips !
My neighbor has Rinehart S/Os and it's the best sounding bike I know. Deep, deep, deep sounding and not abnoxious.
I have V&H's but agree that the Reinharts sound thebest for duals. For 2 into 1's I like the Bag Daddy's from Martin Brothers. Or you can keep the stockers and hum to yourself...

I am no expert. I've only had one Harley and it had drag pipes. Great....loved em.....loud as hell. That said, I'm 40 now, and my friend has a Heritage with Thunderheader 2 into 1 that sounds great
