Is there any reason I wouldn't be able to use a hydraulic clutch on a 120R equipped SG w/ the SE heavy duty clutch?

Can you still find the 'friction zone' with a hydraulic clutch?

Can you adjust how far off the handlebar the hydraulic clutch engages?

Thanks

I've got a CVO with hydraulic clutch and don't think you can do too much in terms of slipping the clutch like you can with a cable operated clutch, which I have had on lots of bikes. It seems like the hydraulic is either engaged or not with little in between. jmtc.

I've got the CVO hydro clutch setup on my 120R motor, I forget which lockup clutch they installed, but it works like a dream.

My 03 SERK came with one from the factory. It is very smooth operating and would suggest it would be a very valuable upgrade for you.

I've thought of this mod as well. When I was planning to buy mini apes, it became a hot topic for me b/c I was wanting to hide the cable in the bars. As it turns out I hid the cable in a different way. I still think I will do this but not sure when. Don't like having to lube and adjust, but hearing about a lack of friction zone concerns me a bit.

Puttnutt24, can you please send me the PN for the V-Rod black master cylinder (it's the same size, 11/16) and the clutch lock out switch in the left switch housing that is a normally open switch on the hyd. clutch bikes. Thank you!

Some useful info here, fellas. I am getting my ducks laid out for a conversion from hand-lever cable clutch to police rocker clutch on my '87 evo FXSTC. That part is easy...but. (There's always a "but".) In the past when I built bikes with rocker clutch and jockey I always had cable front brake - and moved the front brake lever to the left side. (It's much better, particularly in traffic with hills.) But the FX front brake is hydraulic... So I have choices...

I can change the front brake to cable. Not a happy way to go, but workable. When did the big twin discontinue cable front brakes? 'Course I could use a jap hub and wheel, or lace one up... Lotta work...

or

I can find a left-side hydraulic lever set-up (for hyd clutch) and adapt that to work the front caliper. A preferred way.

But all my experience has been with WL engines and set-ups which used cable brakes.

So I ask y'all - for suggestions on part number(s), application(s), source(s) for left-side hydraulic "actuator" lever and master-cylinder, etc. Seems like the "best" way to go - but cost is an issue. And I'd like to keep the bars reasonably clear of clutter, wires, etc.

Of course, one can simply forget the front brake, but I'd like to keep the brake and live a few more years...

Thanks in advance for suggestions and comments on this mod. As to why...well, at 67 ya might say I'm old school and stubborn, have arthritis from numerous crashes and years of heavy industrial work, and, quite honestly, the police clutch/jockey/left lever brake suits me. I've never been comfortable with left-side foot shift, and when it is cold...ah! The pain!. My various bits don't work so easily as they once did - the police set-up on my old WL's fit and pleased like well-worn shoes... I will concede that the "learning curve" for the rocker/jockey is steep - but I climbed that in the 60's.

According to the recall info for the 2014 HD touring hydraulic clutch master cylinder the manufacturer is:
Supplier Identification :
Component Manufacturer

Name : Hayes Brake Performance Systems, Inc.
Address : 5800 W. Donges Bay Road
Mequon WI 53092
Country : US

I don't know if that's any help or if they would provide details about the master cylinder such as bore size. It's an interesting idea that you have and it should be workable.

Here's a parts list and diagram of the 14 FLHTK master.
