Default '09 SG Shock Question

Noticed that my SG was riding significantly worse than my VTX 1300. Called the dealer and he informs me about air shocks. When I left the dealer after purchase they didn't mention anything about them. Anyway, talked to one of the service guys and he said that I will have to air them up every few weeks. That sounds like crap to me. Surely a $20k bike wouldn't be sold with air shocks that lose air that quickly. This is bogus.

Secondly why do these have to be adjusted manually. A Wing comes with 20ish settings and can be adjusted with a touch of a button. Am starting to really wonder if I chose the better bike between the two. If you could remove the trunk of a Wing, it would be really difficult.

Someone please reaffirm my faith in the Mo Co.

I don't have a SG but I have street glide shocks on my Ultra to lower it slightly. Mine hold air forever. The only time I adjust the air is when I carry my wife and then I add air for the extra weight. I've owned the bike since Feb 08 and the shocks have always held any air pressure that I have put in them. Oh BTW you will need HD's air pump, $25 at the dealer

Yeah, DON'T use a regular air hose and compressor. You'll have undesirable results...

The bikes I've seen hold air until I change the pressure.

What they didn't tell you is the Street Glide with it's shorter shocks for a lower ride is not the ideal bike to ride around with two large people aboard. The shocks on my Road King hold air. Maybe you should have Ultra shocks installed. It would be my choice for 2 up riding.
Ask you dealer. I bet that would solve your problem,

Some dealers never cease to amaze me. You have never owned a Harley let alone a touring bike and they didn't go over every fine detail with you??? Damn talk about taking the money and run. But yeah they are air shocks. Buy the HD pump and adjust accoring to the owners manual or by your comfort. But the SG shocks are going to be a little more harsh than standard length touring shocks. Especially when two-up.

My dealer went over everything with me, showed me the pump I have to buy and warned me not to use any type of air compressor or even a bicycle pump as it could rupture the shocks.

Still don't have the pump, and still havnt checked the pressure on them since they delivered it. Guess I should before my next ride. If they bleed down like the OP has been told I would call them defective.

I have had my king since January and I checked the pressure on the weekend - still 20PSI.

Im about 280 lbs and the wife rides very occasionally. What would you guys recommend?

I underdstand what you mean by don't compare bikes across brands or you will never be happy. Even though I understand it still sounds like someone trying to sell an inferior product. I have always been facinated my Harley and am enjoying my bike. I still think that if Honda would man up and offer options on the Wing, Harley would have to stand up and take notice. competition is good in anything .
