Forks Locked ! Thanks HOG !
Started off with a nice ride down the Interstate. Did a little shopping, and looking around.
I go out to my 06 Streetglide, unlock the ignition / fork lock which turned into the correct position, and find out that my forks are locked. I tried everything to unlock them before calling the dealer. They responded by telling me to twist the handlebars like I'm trying to bust them, then bring it on in and they would take a look at it. Duh !
I called the HOG roadside number and they were very helpful, but still took over 2 hours to locate a tow truck. When the guy showed up another hour later, in a full size flatbed truck, he told me he never towed a bike before. He wanted to hook these big *** metal hooks to the frame and drag it on up the bed. I was able to talk a few guys into helping me first drag the bike to the truck, don't forget the forks are locked, and then we proceded to push it up on the trailer bed, which was coated in grease and oil, enough for the guy to tilt the bed flat and for me to be able to hold the bike up by myself while he tied it down. We had to use all the crappy, greasy straps he had. He kept asking me ," Do you think this is going to work ?"
It was my first towing experience also.
Oh before we drug it over to the trailer the guy thought he would try twisting the forks around to loosen them. Well before I could warn him the the bike rolled forward off the stand and luckily I was able to catch it and stand it up again. Now I have a pulled muscle also. Well an hour later we are back at the dealership. I got to hear all the jokes about the difficulty of riding in circles the whole way there.
I guess the only bright spot was that my HOG membership covered the tow and nothing was seriously damaged. That fork lock really has me worried though.
