The 765T bluetooth paired with the bluetooth of my Oticon Epoc hearing devices without a hitch. However, the volume is not sufficiently loud when riding to understand the directions. I'll keep working on this.

The FM tramsitter on the 765T identified a clear channel and displayed the channel to tune the Road Glide's radio. I did, and immediately worked fine. However, voices are difficult to understand when at speed - say 60mph - on the Road Glide's stock Harmon Kardon radio. Also, when I rode to another town I picked up a new signal that overlapped with the Garmin's FM transmission.

I had wanted to go without wire connects, and to transmit to multiple bikes. I will keep working on it and appreciate any advice.

Garmin nüvi 765T now $337.28 at BigRiver, no shipping charge

Difficult for HOG to sell mass commodity items like GPS when HOG offers nothing more meaningful than a logo and has a fixed price several times more than the commodity item. What was HOG thinking. Makes me want to sell my HOG shares.

Continuing with my saga of the Garmin 765T

Issue: phone book does not come up in 765T when paired via BlueTooth to cell phone

While 765T pairing with my cell phone (AT&T 8525 by HTC) was straight foward, the cell phones' phone book, and recent call history, were supposed to be captured by the 765T, and displayed. It was not.

In searching the Internet for the fix, it was suggested to "drop" the cell phone from the 765T using the 765T's bluetooth commands, wait a minute and then reconnect. I did this several times and finally the phone book was captured. Capturing the phone book can take a few minutes.

I have read elsewhere that the song library of the Garmin 765T is limited to 1,000 songs. Also, that a 16GB SDHC card gives a slow response on the 765T, so only up to 8GB SDHC cards are recommended for the 765T. I have not personally confirmed eiher. Avoiding issues, I bought an 8GB SDHC card today from here, for about $20. Probably should have bought two.

I have about 2,000 songs in iTunes, imported from my CD collection. So I will need several SDHC cards to carry my entire song library on the 765T.

The Garmin 765T does not play iTunes format, but does play MP3 files. To export from iTunes into MP3 format you need to change iTunes <EDIT><PREFERENCES><GENERAL><IMPORT SETTINGS> and choose <IMPORT USING MP3> Yea, I know, were gonna EXPORT to MP3. Hey, I neither wrote nor designed this PITA Apple program. Then select the files you want in MP3 format, right click, and choose <Create MP3 Version>.

Then you right click on <START> in Windows, then search your iTunes folder for *.MP3 Either cut or copy (copy probably safer, then go back and cut if you want or delete), then paste to your 8MB SDHC card.

Intuitive, right? Nope, and that is why I am providing it here to minimize all those lost riding hours of rediscovering what I have learned instead of riding my Deuce and/or Road Glide this weekend.

The above is for iTunes on a Windows PC. I have no idea what differences there are on a Mac.

I've used this GPS for several weeks, including on an across USA trip.

After my familiarity with the Garmin 765T, I tried out a ZUMO at the HD dealership. Frankly, I saw no benefits of the ZUMO over the 765T.

Several things I found lacking in the 765T that I have come to expect in laptop based GPS and navagation software.

The 765T has
  • a confusing icon command interface.
  • connection via bluetooth not stable
  • loading contacts from cell phone must be done each time connection is made, and is not stable once it has been made
  • distances are to next waypoint or to some mysterious location somewhere along the route, and not to entire route.
  • Lacking good summary statistics of the route.

None of the above are fatal errors, especially given the price differential between the 765T and the ZUMO.
Nevertheless, I would have expected better software in a $350 GPS.

To be honest, I am not sure why you would want to even try to use your cell phone while riding your Harley?

I have a 755T and have used it many times on the Harley and in my Truck too. The plug can get very close to the gas tank so you might want to look at that.

I use the touch screen with and without gloves with no issues.

As for a data card, I have an 8 gig card, and it is usless as far as i am concerned. I would never try to listen to music from it. I load up a CD with just over 8 hours of MP3's on and that works just fine for me.

I use a RAM Mount very happy with that too.

Only down fall to using the GPS on the Harley is the sun sometimes, but you can get a sun visor for it off of Ebay for less the 20 bucks.

I agree. And I don't. However, I have a hearing problem (from loud guns, if you know what I mean).

In my truck (wife driving) I like to link the cell phone to the radio via the Garmin 765T. The link works fine and I can hear fine. However, sometimes the connection drops, which is irritating. Not an issue when riding my Road Glide 'cause I, like you, don't use the cell when riding the bike. Frankly, I don't want music either. Just the Garmin voice directions over FM which works fine except when moving into a zone with a competing FM station.

I agree on this point too. I could have pointed this out. However, because the RG has a fixed fairing, the 1/2" gap is close but sufficient. The 765T power point to the cig lighter is quite long.

Me too. Why pay double for the ZUMO?

I purchased several 8gb data cards and loaded about 800 songs on each. Why? 'cause I could.

Agreed, the RAM Mount works fine. Easy off and on too, keeping the 765T mine.

I will need to check that out. If you can, please provide a link. BTW, in my comparison of the ZUMO and the 765T, the ZUMO was no brighter. So both have this same issue.

Thanks.

To speed up the access to your music put the songs into seperate folders. I read that on a different forum. I also us winamp to build playlists that the Garmin can see.
