only thing I can think of ...if its sumped up it could blow out a gasket....or it could cold seize because the pistons will expand faster than the cylinders...lifters might not be pumped up so some hammering of the pushrods might happen....rollers dont require much oil to survive, but the plain cam bearings of a 07 and up could seize......generally not a good idea to rev em while cold

I dont think that is the case at all or the owners manual would state to let the bike warm up at an idle for 10 min before riding. Besides if you have oil pressure then you should be good....a cold motor should have 30 plus and a warm motor at an idle will only have around 10, the oil light goes off at 3 pounds so i dont think you would hurt anything, but you should be a little more easy on the motor until it warms up some.

I agree with Crash. I don't rev mine or otherwise stress it 'til the oil temp reaches 150°, but that's just one of my many little obsessions. I feel that until heat is built-up into all components you should take it easy, as that way it would seem wear would be kept to a minimum.

Also, most wear an engine experiences is in the first few seconds after a cold start. IMO if you run an oil that adheres to the metal parts, like most synthetics do, and keep the revs and stress down at least in the first few minutes of operation you are extending the life of the engine.

I agree...the first few min you should be easy on it but...unless you have a oil temp guage then just be easy for the first 5 min.

I start mine and it always runs about 2-5 min before i take off....i let it idle while i fill my bags....then i take off easy and ride.....

Among the hundreds of dire warnings in my owner's manual, under "Starting the Engine" it says "The engine should be allowed to run slowly for 15-30 seconds. This will allow the engine to warm up and let oil reach all surfaces needing lubrication. Failure to comply can result in engine damage. Do not roll the throttle before starting."

If the lawyers didn't have a hand in the making of owner's manuals they would be only half as big.

I agree.....and like it says 15 -30 seconds........that is just enough time for the computer to get the idle settled down. And i agree not to twist it then....

Default silicone oil

I believe in a light throttle & 100 % silicone oil for all engine rpm & temperatures . Crude oil boils @ -200 deg. ,silicone boils @ +400 deg. which means no bubbles & the best lubercation made , but cold engine parts & high rpm"s will kill all engines in time ! just my thoughts. depends on what you mean by reving up. stators have been known to disintegrate at high unloaded rpm.
