im leaving for tennessee from wisconsin june 1 for a 10 day trip through nashville then to pigeon forge my street glide has 1800 miles on it and by the time i get to tennessee will be in the neighborhood for a 2500 mile service. 1000 mile was done at 1380 mi. how critical is the 2500 mile service should i have it done in tennessee or should i skip it and go to the 5000 mile service. i tried to look in past posts but couldnt find what i was looking for. round trip im guessing will be approximatley 2000-2500 miles total. it seems to me i should be able to go more than 1500 miles between oil changes. i understand the need for the first one.
I believe the 2500 mile change is to get you on track to change at 2500 mile intervals...1000, 2500, 5000, etc. Your manual should tell you what needs to be done at each service interval. Unless you want to have a change on the road, I would wait till I got home and have it done. Just my $0.02
When I hit 2,500 mile I change the oil and filter whether I am at home or on the road. Only takes a few minutes and the peace of mind is worth it to me.
My guess is that when you hit 2500 miles you will be within 50 to your nearest HD dealer... get the service done, buy yet another shirt and be on your way
I have to agree with Rhubarb in regards to the 2500 mile service. I just bought an 06 FLHTI from Crossroads in Wilkesboro NC and was told by the service manager the 2500 mile service was deleted by Harley. At least this way you can enjoy the ride and this will give you more time to save up for the next service interval. If you get a chance you may want to take the ride thru the Dragon and enjoy some of the long flowing twisties, I'd recommend doing it during the week since on the weekends the sport bike guys seem to take over.
ok i read my owners manual and found no service required for 2500 miles im going to ride to 5000 then get it changed. thanks for the input. i cant wait for my trip to start. i only wish i didnt have to ride through nashville. im going to murphreesboro so i cant see any way around it.
