I'm ordering a Zumo 550 for use on my RKC and wondered if the mount it comes with will suit my needs. I figure there are neough of them out there that there should be some opinions.
I was in the middle too and now I think leaning to the 550. The main reason is while the 660 has a couple of features I like, they are not worth the price differential in my mind. The other reason is availabiltiy. I'm headed out on some multi-day trips ina couple of weeks and would like it for them. No guarantee on the 660 being recieved by then.
There are lots of different ways to mount the Zumo, but the stock mount works fine. When you're not using the Zumo, it's easy to remove the cradle so just the ball remains on the bike, and you can take that off by loosing two nuts. You will have to find a power source, I wired my to the cig lighter on the Ultra, but you don't have that option on the RKC.
Okay, sounds about right. My 550 is waiting me in the store and they think, they will have 660 in a couple of weeks. I'm not sure, if I can handle the pressure ;-) Frankly speaking, I haven't find any real reason to buy 660, except it's the latest...

He would have to go in through the headlight necelle and grab power from the headlight. There is a term in there that work off the ignition switch.

I just ran the wires under the gas tank and hooked them to the battery. It powers up as soon as I place it in the mount and is ready to go by the time I start to move. I bought a locking **** for the mount so that you can't just unscrew it from the ball. I also bought a thumbscrew to replace the "security screw" that comes with the mount. The original screw was a pia to deal with, and not much of a deterrent for a thief. This way I just take the Zumo with me or lock it in a bag whenever I park.
