Why should I consider the new hinges ... the ones on the bike have worked fine for the last 114000 mile ... what's the advantage other than appearance ... convince me I should get them

I you don't think the appearance is reason enough, you won't be happy with the new hinges. There is no performance improvement...they just look better!
I think the appearance improvement alone is worth the cost.
99% of HD accessories are for appearance only. That's all the justification most people need.
I used a drill for the first rivet, but that was slow and a little risky. For the rest, I just cut the rivet head off with a pair of flush cuts from the outside (against the hinge so there was no danger to the soft Tourpak plastic).
These are the Hinges that should have been on these bikes for years. They match the look of the latches, instead of the old ones that looked like an afterthought
Got them on mine...Only just for appearance and matching the opening latches. HD should've put 'em on right in the factory on the Ultras only. D'Oh...I forgot that Harley's out to do some marketing... ;-)
My factory hinges are beginning to get a bit shaky. After reading these post, I went to Chicago Harley Davidson web page and ordered the hinges on line, about $46 bucks shipped to my door. Will be installing them by next week. One of those things I have been meaning to do as soon as I got "a round tuit", now I have one....PACO

I purchased them for 2 reasons, 1) They simply look much better than the pewter crappy stock hinges, 2) The security is better. It only takes 1 minute to remove the stock hinge pins with a 25 and 15 torx. Can't do it with the new ones.
One thing I didn't mention (if I can beat this dead horse ...) is definitely use loctite, and torque it to specs (20-25 in lbs). Being a little leery of cracking the fiberglass, it torqued them much tighter than I would have done by 'feel'.
