Sorry to hear the wife does not like the sundowner. I was thinking about purchasing one. My wife realy likes the stock passanger seat but I hate it, get butt burn after about 40 minutes. I purchased a gel pad but it didn't seem to help. I will be receiving my Air Hawk this Thursday and hope it helps. If it doesn't, the only thing left for me to do is buy the Air Zepplin!!
I run a Sundowner and both of us like it. Back support is crucial.
We were in Hill City SD last summer for the Sturgis rally and I bought the wife a sheepskin from Australia. You just lay it on top of the seat. No installation needed. She loves it. Warm in winter, cool in summer and gives just enough padding to take most of the bumps out of our gawdawful Calif. highways. You can also buy a full sheepskin to cover the whole seat. Her comfort level has increased so that we can do 450 m. a day compared to the 300 or so before her backside wore out on the Sundowner or stock seat. I've had friends tell me the gel pads make you sweat yer azz off.
I have tried several products, made my own pads with gel and memory foam....I find that good foam is the way to go...I have a Airhawk but i only use it at the end of the day...I think a good seat like a Sundowner and MCC or Mustang & Corbin all work but different people have different builds or physical dimensions that one seat might be perfect for one and suck for the other and the passenger...My wife loves the back of the Mustang ..After about 500 miles my butt gets a bit sore...I suffer from Diabetes and Severe Rheumatoid arthritis...This is a big factor to consider...My circulation is compramised so i use the air pad at the end of the day...I also try to stop frequently...Every hour of 100 miles....I am seriously considering re shaping my stock seat and adding different foam by Mean city cycles...But i am pretty sure the Zepplin would work best for me but i can't shell out the cash fo rit right now...I sell medical products and have been to many training classes where they say pressure relief is the best way to fight pain...keep it under 32 MG of Mercury on the Braden scale. This is why the Air pads work and the memory foam work also...Gel gets hot...Sheepskins work... i use one also but i alternate all of these...Good luck.
