I agree with this post in that on the highway some noise helps people see you and lets face it, I like the roar going under a bridge.....I do however wonder what the heck some people do to get their bike so loud....and why.

too many dorks get rambunctious with the throttle in neighborhood and too close to people houses.

Daytona has signs all over about loud pipes and the cops dont hesitate to grab you.

Most people use common sense with their pipes, stay off the throttle in residential areas.
No excuses for some people though, other day a guy comes past me, just cranks it as he gets to me (thought he was being cute, stupid, whatever..) and hauls off.
He's wearing a half helmet with a skull mask, HD jacket, he's got straight pipes on his cruiser with no baffles....really obnoxious.
Wife asks what model of Harley he was riding as she didn't get a good look at it and I tell her it wasn't a Harley. Had shaft drive and was a Yamaha.....

Most citizens would think it was a Harley and gives us a bad rap..

Well I got to say these loud car stereos got to go, we are going to have a generation of deaf people running around.

I cant say I am all for loud pipes then beat down stereos but if your windows are up and you are driving past my house and I can feel the bass in the floor its too much. or if I am in my car and cant hear my radio over yours its also too much.

I just chalk this up to the fact that there will always be people that push things to the limit, and then the rest of us suffer because we are lumped in with them. Its the guys running straight pipes and redlining the motor at stop lights that make everyone pissed off. Then when the are asked, "do you think its a good idea to enforce noise ordinances?" all they remember is that guy and assume everyone is like that.

yes, police have more important things to do, but they also have to address what teh public outcry is at that time. We had a similiar situation just outside detroit where some of the locals were getting upset about noise during the weekly "bike night". So what prevailed? the almighty dollar settled it, as all the restaurants and bars that raked it in during those nights didn't care about the noise, the only noise they cared about was the cash register.

So what does it all mean? People will always find something to complain about, and rarely do they consider what the consequences of their rant is, luckily most of the time it just fades away and we can all go back to life as usual!

I think some people are not happy unless they are complaining about something. Example: (a bit off topic) a local shool is being sued because they had graduation in a church. I been to one of these graduations and there are soo many people that it is the only place big enough to hold all the people. Someone was offended by the cross. Give me a break. Same goes with pipes. If someone doesn't like it, they complain about it. Some guys are abnoxious with their pipes. Which will ruin it for others. Personally I hate the loud stereos. I can hear them in my house, but never see the car drive by. I think society is just getting worse with people complaining.
