Loud pipes
This issue will only get worse as more people try to get the loudest pipes they can, for that "Harley sound". As someone with 45 years riding these scoots, I can tell you we have crossed this bridge before, along with helmet laws. You can't blame the people who live in these areas as I have seen the idiots making it bad for everyone else.
My point in this post is to not discourage you from changing your pipes but, when you do, have some respect with the throttle in these neigborhoods where you frequent, you just might be able to come back again.
From what I have witnessed personally, the loud pipes crowd crank the engines up, rev them incessantly, and take off full speed through heavily populated areas. This s**t is LOUD.
Society won't tolerate it any more. Expect gov't crackdowns on this. Aftermarket manufacturers will required to be in compliance soon.

I agree with you. I have seen the same thing here. I say to each their own but when it comes to jarring me out of bed at 2:00 in the a.m. with straight pipes, then enough is enough.
Example, A bro of mine has straight pipes on his sled, loves to wick the throttle every chance he gets and doesn't care where he does it either. He lives on a corner lot now with his room in the corner, every night, some guy with straight pipes comes by his place wide open at 3am. makes him jump out of bed every time. He'll cuss like a sailor. Still hasn't changed his tactics though.

Modification of Exhaust Systems
27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.
27202. For the purposes of Section 27200, the following noise
limits shall apply to any motorcycle, other than a motor-driven
cycle, manufactured:
(1) After 1969, and before 1973 ............ 88 dbA
(2) After 1972, and before 1975 ............ 86 dbA
(3) After 1974, and before 1986 ............ 83 dbA
(4) After 1985 ............................. 80 dbA
and this has to be measured from 50 feet from
the centerline of travel...... so unless they do all this no cop is gonna give me any ticket and I won't sign it, done it before and they just let me go cause they know they are just guessing.

Wasn't there an issue once with loud speakers???? People will always find something to bitch about so let common sense prevail. You wouldn't ride through a quiet residential area or in front of a Long Term Care facility with the pipes blarring, would you? If you answered yes to the previous statement....then you are part of the problem for the rest of us!!!
