I wasn't surprised to see that one of the first posts was from an Amsoil distributor. Those folks are as dedicated as an Amway salesman with about the same "better" products.

I run castrol GTX 20W50 car oil in my bike. 2.22 at Walmart. think the motor won't last? since I've only got a l ittle under 151k miles on it, you may be right but then again you may not. It doesn't smoke nor use oil and compression is within factory specs. I do change at 2500 mile intervals like clockwork. Do you think I'm hurting the motor?

Is the compression within new or maintenance specs? Have you looked under your rocker covers for sludge? If you change your oil at 2500-mile intervals you should be okay, but you can go 5K with synthetic, so there isn't much if any saving in that regard. Plus, there is no question that synthetic runs cooler and oxidizes much less readily under extreme heat than fossil oil, so I can't see an economic or performance advantage in using fossil oil. That said, in your case I certainly wouldn't suggest changing to synthetic at this point in time.

That article makes you think, surprisingly the motorcycle oil company's haven't come out with a campaign to prove their products are superior, and you know if they had proof they would be in our face with it. Just food for thought....

I think they figure 90% or more will buy it based solely on the hype, just like we respond to hype every day with other stuff from soup to nuts.

Compression is within factory acceptable specs to not need rebuilding. I have pulled the rocker covers to have some paint work done to accent the bike color last year. No problem with sludge and no buildup. I was surprised to be honest. It looked as clean as any lightly used low mileage bike I've seen. At 2.22 per quart vs 8.00 per quart for syntehtic, it seems to make sense for me. I do realize the synthetic doesn't break down as fast but at my rate of change it hasn't seemed to be an issue. Also, My wrench tells me that the syntethics tend to be a little noisier ( I have no idea or facts about this) and as most know, EVO's are known for valve train noise. Had I started with synthetic oil from the factory I would be using a good synthetic grade but since the MOCO gave birth to mine with fossil, I'll just keep running it. It has worked well for me. Others may not have my results, maybe I just got lucky. I ain't complaining...just bragging
