Had syn 3 in it since the start was told it was crap by too many people I just switched to Lucas with the additive....."but should I have????"

many use the stabilizer I assume ur talking about in their crankcase and/or tranny including myself. .... only motorcycle oils in the primary as u dont want those friction modifiers messing with ur clutch operation.

I have experimented with plain ATF in the primary and it works just fine but I still rather a 10w40 wet clutch compatible conventional oil.

I once ran lucas 20w50 (the bottles with red cap / label that says for air cooled vtwin, not the blue one), never had trouble from it. The only problem was its availability so then i had to change to syn3.

I don't add anything but fresh oil every 3,000 miles.

I use Lucas in everything I own including the bike and I will tell you it will coat everything it comes in contact with.

When Slick-50 came out decades ago, it was really pushed at piston-popper aircraft engines. Years later there was a rash of engine failures (to rebuild an engine for a Cessna 172 can easily cost in excess of $20K) that was traced back to Slick-50...To this day, I cannot see putting any kind of oil additive in my engines.

When I purchased my used SG, I asked the HD dealer salesman what oils they used when they prepped the bike for sale. The salesman took me back and introduced me to the service manager who checked the records and told me that they used HD synthetic in all three holes. 5000 trouble-free miles later (the problems I have had are typical and not related to lubrication) I had them do the 35K mile inspection and fluid change and had them use HD synthetic. Multi-million dollar jet aircraft engines and gear boxes use synthetic and they are pushed far more than your motorcycle engine and and yet an aircraft jet engine or gearbox failure due to lubrication breakdown is unheard of...I will continue to use HD synthetic as long as I do not have any lubrication related failures.

Synthetic, blend, petroleum, one in all holes or a separate oil for each hole...I really don't think it matters all that much for daily use. Use oil that is rated for your ride and that you are comfortable with, keep it topped off and change it at the proper intervals and be confident that your bike will not break down due to lubrication breakdown.
