Hi,
I'm leaving for Laconia TOMORROW and I need a quick fix for an electrical problem.
Tonight, my brake light got twice as bright as normal and started flashing while I was riding.
At the same time, my cruise control quit. Bike is a 2007 RKC.
Now I don't trust the bike to make the trip safely. I need to fix this before I can leave.
Any ideas ???
Thanks in advance,
When the brake light gets power the cruise will disengage automatically so your problem lays with a brake light switch being unplugged or a short in the brake wiring somewhere between the front and rear brakes.
I don't know about an '07 but with the '05 that pesky brake switch is $75.00 (give or take) and it's a long wire attached and bare ends. No plug-in. You either get the metal covers/plugs, attach onto the end of the wires and then replace into the plugs behind the headlight. Oh and you will have to feed that wire thru your bars or the cable on the outside. Pain in the A***.
The quick fix is to tin wires and solder just inside of the housing. Tricky but works (experience).
All this takes time which doesn't sound like you have.
If nothing was done to/with the bars, check the rear brake light switch (right side, along the frame, just rear of the floorboard). Had one go bad with similar symptoms. Easy fix.
