I absolutely HATE those things! Will go many miles out of the way to avoid them.

I cross one regularly and when I went across it for the first time on my new fat tire ULTRA it was a lot less noticable. Try crossing one after the mayflies die all over it. It's like riding over wobbly snot.

In Hampton Roads VA. I'm not sure if I know how many of these are around here. I can think of at least five. I used to have an 03 FXDX. I used to dwell on these crossings well before getting there. It would wiggle like a B!+CH in heat. Now, I have an 09 FLHR - it's nothing more than another piece of road. The only thing I keep a bead on is ensuring I don't have to brake hard on the thing. There's one here with a sharp right at the end of the grate - got to plan that one. Also has four lanes and criss crossing traffic trying to head in two different directions. It's definitley never boring.

Now, sunglasses in the tunnels can be interesting...

I recently crossed the long grate suspension bridge between Ogdensburg, N.Y. and Prescott, Ontario. The speed limit on the bridge is 25mph and I found that this speed or slightly faster (30mph) is perfect for mastering the grate. As already stated, just relax on the bars, keep your distance from the vehicle in front and keep a steady speed.....and then enjoy the ride..
