Previous owner of my '06 King appears to have used something on the top of the headlight nacelle, behind the shield, and rubbed the chrome off down to what looks like brass or copper in a spot a little smaller than a pencil eraser.
I've seen what HD gets for a 1/2 nacelle, and got to wondering about having both halves re-chromed this coming winter.
Anybody had theirs re-chromed, if so what was the ballpark price?
Need to start looking for someone other than a "bumper" shop for this one.
I had the nacelles for my 95 RK re-chromed about a year ago. Result is only about good - there are thin spots in the chrome. More than one attempt was necessary by the plater to get it chromed. Plater said he thought the nacelle was aluminum or would not have accepted the task.

Doesnt sound like a very good chromer. They need to know what the material is before the dip it in a stripper, alum in a metal stripper will disolve it to thin air. A simple magnet would tell anyone what metal it is. I hope he didnt make you pay for his two attempts.

Every piece of powdercoat I have ever owned chipped. It's highly over rated imho. Impress Plating and Polishing are excellent.
+1 on Impress chrome, bought a set of exchange wheels last winter, excellent work. I disagree about powdercoat chipping, a HD frame, black fenders/tanks and engine are pc'd and the only chips I made were from a wrench, thats up until I sold the bike with 65k on her.

My frame has numerous chips on it, my Wheel Dock Center Stand is chipped all over. I have seen plenty of powercoated bikes with chips and paint touch ups all over them. I'm no expert in powdercoat or paint, but it seems to me powdercoat is thicker and more likely to chip, as thick paint would be. Just my opinion and observation, which really means nothing!
