My wife and I are currently on our trip (3000 miles so far) and we did need to use the tools we carry. I carry all the above plus a zip lock bag with a small assortment of screws, nuts, washers, zip ties, and elect wire. I also carry a tube of two part epoxy (the kind that you cut a piece off of the roll and knead together to activate.
We were coming out of Yosemite and my throttle cable broke in a curve. Used the tools to switch the idle cable over to the throttle side. Once we were able to get cables in Fresno used them again to install the new cables. Found stripped threads in my cable clamp and used one of my extra screws to fix that and zip tied the cables back in place.
Knock on wood,in all my years have only had 2 things strand me.both times bike had to be hauled.Other than that it is a guessing game what to take.Whatever you take if you need anything it will be home. The luck of the draw.Good Luck
Not counting one accident, I have been stopped on the road 5 times.
Once for a broken clutch cable - I now lube the end.
Twice for flat tires - I carry a patch kit and pump as well as my HOG card.
Twice for a broken transmission input shaft - I traded that sorry BMW.
First, service and go over every bolt and screw. Then you can spend more time on the side of the road taking pictures instead of fixing the bike. I carry the Cruz road tech 3 tool kit. I added a few wire ties, bolts, screws and fuses. Leatherman on your hip and a cell phone in your pocket. Enjoy
Another thing I carry that most do not suggest, extra fuses. Only had to use the tools a couple times.
Like the others said, bring it and you won't need it - Don't bring it and you will - Also, a small set of needle nose vise grips - Had a buddy break a throttle cable - Took a little skill using these to throttle but we made it to the dealer -
Good luck and have be safe and have fun -
I have a set of Cruz tools...never had to use them.
