Default Dealer work and attitude

I can remember my dad doing a job, measureing twice, taking his time, getting it right, and being proud of his job. After not riding for a couple of decades at sixty years I bought a dyna, now a RKC and have been riding these last few years.
I retired after 30 yrs as a social worker, not a social bureacrat. I took pride in my work and hope I helped some people.
When I purchased my first Harley in the 1970"s AMF owned the company. The dealer with the fancy showroom had an attitude like doing me a favor to take my money. I was lucky in B'ham, AL. there was an independent who was a straight shooter and respected riders.
Now update 2006. Yuppies and businessman now riding. Good.
Had to bring my dyna back three times before service could find that the bike was sticking in gear disallowing downshifting. The second time I brought the bike in the owner brought me back into the service area and demonstrated how to shift. This was done in front of an amused mechanical staff. On the third visit service finally put enough time in to find the problem and resolve it.
2007 RKC 15,000 miles and two years later all work including scheduled maintenance done at dealer. Two new tires. Brakes dragging. Phoned and was told this is normal. Rode bike slowly back to dealer. Service admitted to problem. Ten minutes later bike brought around. I was told readjusted front wheel. Next day on highway at 70mph front end starts to shimmy. Monday back to service. Told tube had twisted throwing wheel balance off by two ounces.
AMF is gone, long live the attitude.

While I might not have hit anyone, I sure would have used some not too polite language on someone.

I worked for a VP who was like your brother. Thought nothing of trying to humiliate people in group meetings. One day he started going on about something we had done in computer room and in middle of his tirade, I got my pen & pad and stood up to leave. He asked what I was doing.

I politely informed him that if he wanted to discuss a mistake or problem we had in computer room, I had no problem doing it in a one-on-one setting with him and with my manager included. But if he thought I was going to sit there and let him chew my *** out in front of 30 other people to stroke his ego, we had nothing to discuss. And I walked out.

It's a good thing to work for a smaller company where you're on first name basis with VP's & the President. Our president knew what he was like and what I was like. I never caught any flack from this.

Hitting someone or I thought of a little more drastic crap would end up in getting me in trouble. My wife says what goes around comes around, but I believe there are people so into their own reality that when it comes around they won't know it.
I plan on doing as much of the maintenance as I can and am actively looking for a good indy.
I guess what bothers me is that year after year these representitives of Harley Davidson get away with this type of crap and we take it.
Oh by the way the shifter thing was embarassing, but the jerk who misinstalled two new tires, thats the guy I'm really pissed at.

My service manager tried that attitude on me, saying that if I knew anything
about HD bikes,I'd know they've always run this hot. I told him I bought my first
one in 1969,so he should skip the BS with me. We got along fine, after that.

Well the small company that we both worked at !... FU&KED me Kept him and his azzhole lying son becaiuse they sucked thier way to the top in salary positions and all I did wAS WORK . Small companys suck as much as big ones! Yup a little resentment here or a lot only because I did my job instead of sucking the bosses wanger.. There is no reason to humiliate or belittle anyone and ive even stood up for other people when ive seen it happen to them. Am I an american badd azz...?? Nope I just hate azzholes ... Oh ya ive also been beat up by the best ... Its a good thing they didnt try to teach me how to shift my bike ... And if they would have suggested out of the lime light and behind closed doors id have been cool and said no thanks but again make an *** out of me then we have problems.. ... You did good you held your composure ,I wouldnt have Oh ya im not the kind of guy to go in a restaruant and complain about the food and service to get a free meal either.. Even with no job I tip well.. These people are working .. Treat me right were good to go.. Sorry for the rant but I feel better now
