Russell's will do any pattern you want, a smooth look to a patterned look (as shown). I had one on a BMW R1150RT. Awesome long distance comfort, best support of any of the major players in the seat industry, but they do take a little getting used to looking at! They are about 8 miles from my house, and super great people to deal with. If you can do a ride-in, you will get it dialed in perfect.
I'm sitting in the lobby at Russell right now while they build mine. I got lucky, was scheduled in sept for a ride in but they had a cancellation so I was able to get in early. I too went with the small squares. I have the half moon on my RT, figured I'd try something different for the HD. I love the seat on my RT, looking forward to having one the HD. I'll post pics when it's done.
I did the ride in on my 09 EG on Tuesday. Showed up at 8, they took some pics and asked about measurements, weight, etc. About 11:30A they test fit me on the saddle without the cover. Worked great. They covered it and it was ready to ride about 4pm. $750 for a seat designed to fit ME. Screamin' deal as far as I'm concerned. It's my second. I have on on my RT and love it. It's got 24k on it.
I didn't recover the passenger back rest, it's an extra $105 or something like that and I thought it looked fine as is. They can also add heat if you like.
