2 1/2 weeks ago, I dropped my 3 day old 09 Road King Classic at a stop sign. Embarressed as all hell for anyone to see my nice new Harley laying in the street. I put my back to it, grabbed the left handle bar and the rear saddlebar bar and jerked it straight up with all the might I had and could muster (using my arms and back).... the bike did not budge, but my back sure did.

I just found out today (after an MRI Monday night) that I have 3 herniated disks, and a compression fracture. But I have still put on about 400 miles since the injury.

But now that I know what I did, I'm not sure I should (or can) take a break from riding.

No doubt, sometimes it is not something that chiropractic can help. The inversion table might just help. It's not too expensive and might be worth a try. It uses gravity to decompress the disc and can help. If it helps a little, you might try to see if any chiros or orthos in your area offer spinal decompression.

I do not do spinal decompression and some chiros have overpromised with their decompression tables, but it is a possiblilty as well for a non surgical therapy. If you want to try that route, look for a chiro who will recommend at least a month of treatment, but will not try to sell you on a prepayment system.

I use pre-pay at times, but not on someone like you who has been through so much and success is far from certain.

When I injured mine 2 1/12 half weeks ago, my wife first brought me to the hospital. There I got some drugs, Flexeril, Davacet, Skelakin. A few days later I went to a chiropractor. My first visit he had me get electro - stimulation, and massage. Then next time he tried to adjust me. He did the neck, upper, and middle back.... fine. Then he went for the lumbar. I tensed up and said no as he was going to try a second time. Next visit he went to do it again. I stopped him before he got to the lumbar. Then last Friday, he put me in a recliner that did decompression. Ift felt good. That is until he had the chair go up right. I jus tlooked at him and kept saying PAIN! He then sent me in to see the massage therapyst. She started to push on my lumbar towards my legs, I was just about to tell her it was tender and the pain suddenly became worse than anything I have felt in my life (all 51 years). I yelled so loud she ran out of the room. The iced me down, and ordered an MRI. That is when we foumd out about the 3 herniated disks, as well as the fractured one. I was in there today, this is when he read me the MRI report. HE did the electro- stim (I'm sure so he could bill nmy insurace) and that was all. Normally a chiroprator wants to see you 2 -3 times aweek in the beginning. HE told me to make an appointment to come back in a week for the electro-stim. He knows that he should not be doing anything else to my back. Without the MRI, he could have messed me up REAL BAD. So be careful.

Disclaimer: I believe in the work that chirpractors do, otherwise I never would have gone. But they need to have the proper facts and should NOT be doing things blindly. A friend of mine is a radiologist, read the MRI, and said to NOT let the chiro lay a hand on me. I need to heal naturaly.... but maybe I will try accupuncture.

Oh... I also have an inversion table. I STUPIDLY tried using it a week after the injury. I did not go all the way over and kept rocking back and forth. When I went upright the pain was unbearable. Once I am fully healed... I expect to go back to my chiro for a well needed adjustment. But I think it will be a while off before that happens.

How do I manage back pain? In a word, Methadone! Yeah, I know it sux, but after 30 years of back problems, several operations and a major motorcycle/suv crash, it's all that I have left. I really hope you have a lot better luck! All the best to you.

Well I just bought a airhawk seat cushion. I will let you know how it works. I am taking a trip from KC to Denver on Hwy 50.
I had back surgery in March. Fused the lower 3 vertebrae together. I was having alot of tailbone pain. Unfortunately after the surgery the pinched nerve came back but due to using other muscles.
I have been through phys therapy 3 hours a day everyday for the past few months.
I take flexaril and aleve and ibuprofen. I switch between aleve and ibuprofen to lessen the side effects.

The right bike and the right seat help.
But nothing has been better for my back and riding comfort than getting off the couch and into a gym.

You can call the magazine publisher and order the back issues..

hahaha I kill me!

I wore a back brace for 8 months and had to get the shock treatment on it. I take ibuprofen and it does the trick for me.
