I noticed this annoying sharp “chirp” sound on my way into work today. 09 Ultra. And before you ask, the answer is No, I did not have my wife with me.
It’s a very short and high pitched sound “chirp” that only happens at the very start of a quick rev. It does it on quick rev’s at idle or when I’m downshifting and give that quick rev to equalize rpm’s into the next lower gear. It does not do it if I roll on the throttle more slowly. Seems to be coming from up front but hard to tell. BTW, this is not the Rinehart sound that people are talking about in another post.
Anyway just though I’d toss this out there and hopefully get some .02 before I get home tonight and go up on the lift to look for the problem. My first inclination is exhaust leak so I’ll probably start there.
My 07 RKC had a chirp that was driving me crazy. I couldn't really tell where it was coming from. My wife said when she rode with me it was coming from the rear of the bike. So I checked into the situation and it turned out to be the right side exhaust hanger. The rubber hanger insert backed out and I had metal on metal. Pushed it back in and now "no chirp". The bag kept me from seeing the problem, I only wish I would have found it earlier.
