Some of us need that tall windshield......it makes a big difference. I need to replace mine....got 20,000 miles on it.....and will look at the clearview site, too. My bike is an '04 and I had it delivered with lowers. It's my second FLTRI and I owned a FLTCUI.....and the RG is the tour bike for me. Instead of a tourpak, I use a SAC cordura sissybar pak, and it works quite well. I don't miss the intercom or the CB, either.
The metal peice the fellas are referring to in this string is a called a WIND BAFFLE, which is removed if one uses lowers.
I'm 6'1" and noticed some head buffeting with the stock windshield. I bought the HD taller windshield and it all but eliminated the head buffeting. I've also noticed that I get more head buffeting when my feet are on the highway pegs as opposed to being on the floor boards - clearly theres a fair amount of air coming up from below contributing to the buffeting.
Just wanted to add some info for the CLEARVIEW shield company. I believe their website is www.clearviewshields.com I know you can contact John in sales at john@clearviewshields.com . The upgrade to any of the taller shields (from 1" to 3") are 2"wider than stock and closer to the rider by over an inch. The rubber gasket along the base is a major improvement over OEM. From other riders in the RG forum I belong to, they have tried the HD catalog taller shield with "minor" improvement but either returned or sold them. Seems Harley just doesnt get it here. The flair on top of the Clearview forms a pocket of calm air where the operator sits. The factory style glass creates a scavenging effect by pulling up the wind from under the fairing which amplifies the buffeting effect. Cost for all 3 sizes is $159.00

How does the base gasket differ from the stock one? I'm glad you mentioned this product.....I have an inquiry into them for the brochure. Looks like a good product. Are you happy with the quality? Anything you don't like about it?
I have a question for those of you that have changed to the wide glide bars. What kind of issues did you run into? Are all the stock cables long enough to install the wide glide bars? I'm getting terrible shoulder pain, and I think that the stock Road Glide bars are causing my problem.

WideGlide bars will fit the RG w/o any cable or wiring changes required. They are VERY comfortable and are one of the best and cheapest mods I've done. All ya gotta do is re-route the clutch cable and straighten out the front brake line.
Be sure to use 2005, or earlier WG bars, as the 06's have thicker bars and clamps.
No more hands & wrists falling asleep & no more back fatigue.
The wind baffle was eliminated by HD because the motor needed extra cooling. I took mine off of my '98 Road Glide and will never put it back on. I'm 6' 5" and don't think buffeting is an issue. Those of you who wear helmets will always feel more than those of us who don't. If you don't like being in the wind, drive your car.

I think you have no idea what you are saying, or you are just being funny. Hard to tell, but there is that smiley.
A little head bobbing is one thing. Buffeting to the point you can't see is a whole other issue. Severe vibration is not only uncomfortable, it is downright dangerous. Until I got my windshield adjusted to the right height, I would lose vision at anything over 60 and get a headache within minutes at speeds over 40.
