Ok, now we're getting somewhere. What hole in the backing plate??!!
there is a tiny hole in the backing plate, inside the venturi that attaches to the (for lack of a better word) carburetor/throttle body. this allows the oil blow by to enter the carb. there are two holes in the venturi, one for the front cylinder and one at the back cylinder. Oil comes up true the bottom of the bolt thru the hole in the other end, thru the backing plate and into the carb. My description of the hole is not very good, but if you look at the backing plate, expecially the venturi (or opeining to the carb ), I sure you will see it, if not maybe I can find a picture.

One more thing, if you don't see the holes in the venturi there is a chance you have the wrong backing plate. This is not very likely but sometime shiat happens.

Well, my 09 has EFI not a carb, but i think I'm figuring this out.
On the front of the backing plate next to the three holes for the mounting studs, there are two indentations, and the casting on the back from these leads to where the breather bolts go through. Seems there should be a hole, but on mine there isn't.
Can someone send a pic of the front of the backplate with the filter removed!! May be I wasted my weekend because my backing plate casting is messed up!
BTW, i triple checked - I've got the right part number - on the box and stamped on the backplate!
So i found this picture in another post. So the two indentations between the upper two mounting studs, should that be a hole running to the breather bolts?? The second picture, without the mounting studs installed is the plate I have.

Dude, I'm sorry about my description, I was typing from memory, here is a picture of my backing plate from fuel moto on the bike, the holes I'm talking about are next to the top two mounting studs. If the picture doesn't show up pm me with a email address and I'll send it to you. Doesn't look like my pic is showing up, and it looks like your backing plate does not have the holes I'm referring to.

I think we figured it out -- seems my backplate is missing the vent holes for the breather. SOB! Well at least I'm now an expert on installing, removing, installing, removing ....... the AC and PCV!
Bought this online at Zanotti -- wish i'd bought it local -- gonna kill more time exchanging it.
And Harleyman, you're going to cost me more money -- think i need to upgrade to chrome backing plate!!!
Either the backing plate is bad or you got the wrong breather bolts, it might require the original backing plate type breather bolts with a tube for the head of the breather mounting bolts to the carb opening.
It all came in a sealed box with the right part number -- very odd. Breather bolts match diagram on install instructions. I think the backing plate is defective. Need to not think about it until Tuesday when dealers open -- been making myself crazy.
SOLVED -- found a closeup picture of the backing plate on another site. Those indentations on by backplate in the picture above are supposed to be holes!!!!! Spent hours on this thinking i #$@$-ed it up somehow! Wonder where the part is made!
