Default Here they are on my 06 Street Glide (pics)

First I just had the saddle bag guard then I got the twin rail guards for better protection.
As you can see on the pictures you cannot see the black bar under the bags, so why go
to so trouble trying to changer and make it chrome?

Ok just helped my dad put his on today not a bad job at all but what i did find out for all of you is ::::

The original chrome brackets under the bag's are the same size and measurements as the black ones that come with the kit so that being said they could be cut and drilled and used in place of the black ones that come with the kit. Probably will be a winter project for me and dad.

Yea just got mine. Chrome from the factory mounts for hardbags on '09 SG. Painted black for $190 from the parts department. I can see the bag mounts when chrome under and behind the bags. Probablly just spend more and send the painted parts off and have them chromed. Instructions are half arsed. Sitting in the box while I decide whether to chrome em' or take em' back and build the damn things myself and have them chromed.

Well…………I love this place……to each his own.

I couldn't wait to get those twin rails OFF my Ultra……sold them for a good chunk of change too…..…and here you guys are adding 'em on.

Like I said, to each his own, it's what makes our bikes and owners so different & fun.

I love this place too!

Actually I like the look without the bag bars also but I've seen them help somewhat in a laydown slide to save some injury to the leg when you can't get away from or on top of the bike. The extent of "protection" would depend on a multitude of varibles naturally. As noted by Harley they aren't intended to offer any protection from injury but in some cases they may be "just" enough to minimize an injury. I consider them a saftey item such as more lighting on the rear etc.

Just an update: The chrome factory rail can be cut in the bend, straighened, drilled and adaped to the saddlebag guard with just a little fabricating. The cut end, which is in the first part of the bend has to be straightened out to fit the guard bag receptical then drilled to secure it. The saws-all took care of the cutting. A greenleaf tubing bender took care of the bend. A muffler shop bender could be used with care and creativity as the dies would be too large for the small rail tube. But there isn't much of a bend to straighten out. I marked the length to make the cut from the painted saddlebag rails that came in the kit. The chrome factory rail is the same diameter, as mentioned earlier, as the painted one. Also the same thickness. Some selective use of a B**F****** Hammer could do the straightening of the bend if applied with care. One side done, waxed and looking like it should have been done in the first place.

Pictures to follow when the other side gets finished along with some better instructions. Not a hard mod just a PITA to have to do it.

About a four beer job...........
