OK, when most of you are saying NEED TUNER!!!!

Question : Are you talking about the 09's ,,,not the 07's & 08's

I've been researching this topic myself. According to Nightrider Performance, the 09's do not need a fuel tuning device as the ecm will "learn" that you've made changes and adapt to set the fuel ratio back to factory standards. Now, the OEM fuel setting is about 14.6:1 so, you're bike will probably run cooler if you add a fuel tuner.

All I really know is that I used Nightrider's tuning advice on my carbureted bikes with good success. I guess I trust their advice on fuel injection because I know they research things thoroughly.

I am wondering if I add exhaust and an air cleaner, will I experience any performance gains since the bike is still running very lean?

a stg 1 download will help but is designed to return the bike to the 14.7-1 afr after the addition of se pipes and airintake. 14.7-1 is too lean the bike will still run hot may stumble off idol and surge.i started with ied"s they made a difference ran a lttle cooler less stumbling less pinging then went to pcv night and day differenc no ping no stumblr no surging and much cooler .

No, stage 1 download returns to factory specs only, so that means it will still be lean. If you want to go with slip ons only that's fine, no other changes needed. But don't expect performance upgrade. BTW, IED's only work at idle.

I don't understand. Why do IEDs only work at idle?

My current understanding is that they work at all points during closed loop operation. Specifically I thought any of the IED products are changing the voltage read from the O2 sensor. So the ECM is still getting a signal from the O2 sensor, and it reacts to that signal anytime during closed loop mode. The IED is just changing the voltage level so when the O2 sends a signal equating to 13.8, the ECM is reading it as 14.6.

Not sure I understand ,,if you do a Stage 1 download / stock aircleaner and add slip-ons your saying the bike WON'T RUN BETTER

I think it should ?? ??

I would think if you did a Stage I down/load and kept the stock a/c the bike would run cooler and run better also.

stg1 with stock intake will ritchen it up a bit but still no really noticable improvment.
