Question FL(MNOP)??? What's it all mean?

Please excuse my ignorance, how does Harley arrive with the FL(XXX) characters? Is there a post or web site that deciphers the history and current model name characters?

Unfortunately, that looks old. At least pre-2007. There's no mention of the 96" motor, nor does it have the designation FLHRC/I, which is what the modern Road King Classic is.

The "I" has been dropped from all models as they're all fuel injected now.

The "FLXXX" could denote the trike model?
Just guessing.

the titles still have the I on them, but the dealers quit using it. At least my title still has the I on it.

I think titles may be lettered differently by state.
The title to my RG simply states "LTR" in the Model column.

The "I" isn't on HD's website, either.

Interesting since my 2009 still says FLHRC/I in the owner's guide and in the service manual.
