I'm planning on replacing my D407 with a D408 to cure my vibrating mirrors/bars on my 09 Ultra. Starts around 65 mph and up. Bike has 2200 miles on it. All other checks I have done balancing, tightness etc. Question is has anyone changed a D407 and had results stopping the fuzzy mirrors? Appreciate your feedback.
No one replied so I decided to go ahead and get the D408 installed (front). Mirrors are clear and vibration is gone. Off tire had small runout which I guess was to much. Bike is a joy to ride now.
I'm replacing rims to a 16/18 setup so I can get rid of the Dun-flop D407F. I find it hard to accept that the 408 will handle wet roads well since it's the 407 tread pattern reversed. Seems like a knee jerk reaction rather than re-engineering a new tire.
At 4K my 407F has some cupping, howls a little in the turns, and has maybe 3K left. At that time I'll replace it with a 408F which actually has the tread angled the correct way for a front tire.
My 09 ug from day 1 had a coast down wobble (thats what hd calls it) betwn 30 and 25mph which the moco knew about and thats why they now have the d408 hd part # 43115-09a
mcy has 6000 miles now and new tire coming soon . Wobble has basically gone away so new tire on hd this time around. Hope its as good as the old 402! Wish theyd make the 402 in a 17" er
I was thinking the same thing about the waranty? I have 5000 miles on an 08 RG and noticed the front vibrating more this weekend on a 250 mile trip. Sure would like to get that stopped but do not want to have to shell out $ for a new front tire already.
Anyone got this covered under warranty with a 2008 and how do you tell if it is cupping?
I just had a 408 put on yesterday at 8.5K miles. The old tire was cupped pretty bad. I only rode it home from the dealer's, but it seems much improved.
Call HD customer service to complain. It took a lot of work, but they gave me $100 off the regular price. Not great, but better than nothing.
