I get that also on my 08,,, dont know if its shocks,, I run 25 psi with wife,,,
or maybe the tool kit in the saddle bag, or sometimes I wonder if its the jiffy stand bouncin off the frame..?
As far as the sharper clank noise in the front, I get that also, like if I hit RR trax hard,,
Mechanic couldnt find anything!
I get it everyonce in a while...mine is definitely coming from the rear end. It happens more when I have my wife riding with me. I'm going to bump up the rear air pressure on the next ride that she goes on to see if that helps.
Yes I have. I wasn't sure if the shocks were bottoming out on the frame or if , as you said. Depressing the tire drasticly and hitting the rim. I increased my rear shock air pressure (with passenger) to 43 to 45 psi. Solo I run 38 to 40 psi. I don't hear as often. Don't know if the air pressure was the trick, or if I'm just blocking it out. I check the psi before each ride or every three days. I do it that often because I have a leak. I told the dealership about it on my last scheduled service....but it still leaks. I plan to use some soapy water to find the leak, but haven't taken the time yet.
Are you able to run that much air in the '09 Ultra, I'm pretty sure that my '08 says only 30lbs in the service manual.
I believe the 09's let you go to but not beyond 60psi. I keep mine around 40 for myself and any stored items...and will increase it alittle when I add the wife.
I had the same problem. When I collected the bike from the dealership it happened a few times in the first week or so. I checked to rear shock pressure and discovered it was at 0 psi (really). I pumped it up to about 30-35 for solo riding and it worked fine after that. With a pillion I usually pump it up to 40+.
Are you able to run that much air in the '09 Ultra, I'm pretty sure that my '08 says only 30lbs in the service manual.
Yes I am. I looked in my 05 ultra manual also. Both have a maximum of 50 psi. They have some recommendations of psi ranges based on rider/passenger / cargo/ weight...etc... but we have found it necessary to go higher than the manual recommendations, to obtain the desired comfort level.
Is this a metal to metal thud or more of a deeper tone? Also is it in the front end or Rear (if you can tell)? I have a "cluck" in the front end when hitting bumps, not all the time, it seems to be I have to hit the bumps jsut right.
check your fork bearings. they may need tightened up.
I have noticed this on mine and inflated the shocks and it took care of it. These shocks take more air than the 07 I had. I run mine about 30psi and I'm 185lbs. I pump it up to 40 psi riding 2-up.
