I use a lowrance I500c that I bought for a $100 from a friend that also rides. Large screen, water proof, came with ram mount's, 12v adapter and hard wire kit. Works great. Also has a built in mp3 player which works for me, I just ran the wires under the tank and ran the plug out between the seat and the tank. Just plug the earbuds in when I get on!
I was looking at getting a zumo, but for the price I didn't give it a second thought!
I've been riding with my older 660 Garmin, mounted to the fuel door (supplied suction cup), with absolutely no issues. I just keep it out of heavy rain. Although it already survived one good downpour so far!
Make sure you have a secondary tether of some sort - just in case something lets go.
Great point on the tether! I put a tiny eyebolt on the underside of the 580 and hooked a small chain to it and post below the ball on the Garmin. Was always worried about hitting a bump in the road and watching the GPS pop off and get run over
Dammit Koala! That cockpit view on your bike is gonna cost me big time. LOOKS GREAT!!!!
LMAO
you're welcome!
I really love the look and the bike performs AMAZING!!! Tons of power (IMO) and 46-50mpg on the highway, when cruising up in the mountains with the Cruise set at 71.
I use a TomTom One, with a Ram Mount...been over 20k miles with it on my bike, still works great...I have been told it will break...I'm ok with that, you can buy them for under 100 bucks....I just put it in the saddle bag when I get caught in the rain.
