Wix and purolator make great filters. BUT!!! The twin cam engine is supposed to have a 5 micron filter. NONE of the aftermarket filters claim 5 micron filtering ability like the HD filter does.
So is this just moco bs? Or is it real???
I buy moco filters. They are not that expensive and when I install them myself, I don't overtighten and they are not that hard to get off, even without the nice nutted end that the K&N's have.
Seems really stupid to use anything else if the moco filters really do filter to 5 microns and their claim that 5 micron filtration is necessary is true.
Can anyone suggest a reason to get sub-par filtration to save a few bucks or make it easier to remove??

From someone who is familiar with hydraulic filtration and sells it, whatever HD is claiming is not commesurate with their price. There is two types of filters, "absolute" and "nominal". Absolute means it is virtually guaranteed that nothing bigger then 5 microns (on a 5 uM Filter) gets through but that comes at a high price. Mostly all these automotive and MC filters are "nominal" which means that it catches a fair percentage of particles that are 5 microns or larger (on a 5 micron rated filter). HD would be very unique to spec or use a true absolute rated filter and if they did, you would be paying allot more for your filters. $7-8 is a nominal filter whereas Absolute would be 10 times higher ($75-100) give or take if it was even offered, which I highly doubt for this type of application. The bottom line is don't sweat that simple claim or rating because there is no need for a 5 micron rating on that type of engine. I believe that you'll find all of these filter whatever brand are buying their filter media, if not the entire can already made from the same few suppliers. I think most of these filters are rated at around 10-15 micron nominal, thus the low sub $10 cost retail.
I use the chrome HD, or the one from Drag that has a nut on the end. Has anyone seen these reusable, washable whatever filters with the grooved billet housing. Supposed to be really good and be a lifetime oil filter.
I think the Champion made filters are good. I'm glad HD uses them instead of (horror) Fram. I think Champion makes the Supertech filters for Wally World. I certainly have no problem with Wix, and I have used them on my Esprit before I found that the Toyota filter works on that one too.
WIX Black filter and AMSOIL Syn., recently switched from HD Syn-3 and HD Black filter. Can find AMS and filter easy local much cheaper than at the dealer.
