I've had the rear pads changed on my 08 EGC around 5000 miles and I am around 9000 and preparing to change out the front sometime in the near future so I thought I would beef up my knowledge now. Should I stick with Harley pads or are there better options out there and if so which is the best? I have abs too!
I have 13k on my 08 and still got some meat on the front and rear pads. I don't know how you guys are burning through your pads. Anyhow, options include stock, EBC and Lyndall Z+. The Lyndalls tend to work better on the pre brembo bikes than they do on the 08 and later bikes. Some people have not had any issues with Lyndall's on the brembo bikes and others have so it seems to be hit or miss.
a bike with abs brakes, system is designed to be used with a set friction material etc. they must be compatible, in other words, use the factory pads designed for your bike with abs. i think anything else is playing with fire

Very interesting observation here! I will consider this...
after having the same question, i in fact a few weeks ago started a thread about options for brake pads. it came down to help me with the decision to stick with stock pads on my brembo non abs streetglide. some claim that the lyndall's are the best, and some the ebs, but i don't think harley davidson is in the business of making brake pads. they're outsourced to someone, i decide when it's time i'll go with stock harley pads. they work great, and how in the world did you wear out pads at 5,000 miles? do you use the rear brake only and drive like a flatlander when they drive in the mountains? foot on the brake at all times? oh well, it's your bike. enjoy. there may be an alternative, ceramic pads, if they're compatible with the rotors.
Been using lyndall Z on all of bikes since 2005. Great stopping power and pad life. The mentality that HD has someone else make their brake pads is true...the cheapest bidder in china...
