he was "Too Tall" Freeman and his boss flew the other aircraft, in real life and he and his boss's actions are depicted in the movie.
you are correct, but the incident about flying the helicopters in and rescuing folks was depicted in the movie. and his boss was awarded the moh as well, though it was something like 42 years late..... but like he said, at least he was alive to receive it!
they were both amazing guys, we could use a few more like them.
Great post except for the tag referencing the child molester, "I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we've sure seen a whole bunch about some freakish white-gloved singer passing..!!"
I heard the story a few weeks back and have hoisted one for Ed. The sad truth is that we are losing hero's every day from WW2. Most go without a wisper. Grandpa fought in Italy and passed last year. I agree 100% that the media is f***ed up. These soldiers usually don't make a big fuss about what they did and leave us without much fanfare. It's up to people like us to recognise what they did for our country (and the world). If your ever in the Kalamazoo Michigan area, stop at the Air Zoo. They try to document as much as they can from veterans of all conflicts. Expecially the WW2 vets. (There are not many left). There is a ton of military history on display.
To the Vets. Thank you
To the active Service Men and Women. Come home safe
To the Hero's already gone. Thank you. You make me proud to be an American
Thank you Ed you were a hero. Lost my Uncle last year a WW II and Korean vet. As was stated above. We loose many heros daily, with no mention from the media. But, just because we are not in the media does not mean WE can't spread the news.
Thank you to all who have served you are very much appreciated and prayed for daily.
