Is it safe to leave anything at the campsite when out riding for the day?
Depends on where you are and who your neighbors are. Are you at a small private campground or one of the mega-plexes where a lot of strangers are always walking around? I've never had a problem, but I wouldn't leave anything desirable lying out in plain sight unattended.
Know why the trees in Iowa all point west? Cause Nebraska sucks!
j/k..kinda...
Seriously tho. Nebraska has some of the most boring roads I have been on. I always try to advoid that state if I can.

Ride in northcentral/northwest Nebraska, you'll change your mind. I grew up in Iowa (Audubon) and, personally, would MUCH rather drive across Nebraska than Iowa. I think I80 through Iowa is torture.

Small world Stro, I grew up in Carroll, Iowa. You should know where that is I would think
Tho I would disagree. I80 thru western Ne...now that is nothing but pure, undiluted torture. Flat as a pancake and no scenery for miles. I yawned my whole way thru that area
Being from Nebraska I'm probably prejudiced. But as with anywhere else, If you want to see the country get off theG#DD*MN interstate. Yeah it'll get you there fast, but you ain't gonna see anything wotrthwhile. If you've ever ridden on any of Route 66 you didn't see any of that from the interstate. The wife & I will be heading to Idaho on vacation in a few weeks & unluckily will be taking the interstate & as far as I,m concerned the most boring part of the trip will be from Salt lake City to Boise. Not much to see, But I will have plenty of time to contemplate the meaning of life.

LOL!! I used to get chased out of Carroll regularly as a teen. We'd go up there looking for fights (Whadyawant? Small town drunken teen behavior!) and end up atrracting more attention than was healthy. Besides, Carroll had the only McDonalds for miles around. After my stint in the Army I worked at Carroll Manufacturing out on HWY 30 for a year or so, before finding work in law enforcement.
Don't forget to bring your patience. The population of SD doubles that week, hard to get a table, get a lane, or take a leak sometimes. Just don't plan on hurrying anywhere and enjoy the scenery.
Bring you wet weather gear! I got rained on at least three times coming from NM. It poured down from Hot Springs to Hill City. Saw a lot of rider with no helmets and cut off t-shirts. They were suffering! I just checked the weather before I took off and was good to go in my wet weather gear. Ditto on the sunscreen, I put it on all the waay and didn't get burn. Saw about five guys at breakfast that looked like they had been boiled alive! They will hurt for a few days. It's a beautiful ride, enjoy, and if you have questions along the way PM me. Ride safe.

I've been through CO and seen the Rockies many time, so I went through Nebraska. I thought it was a very pretty state, lots of rooling hills and wheatfields and nice farm country. Of course, I'm just a country boy from Texas!
