Default First Sturgis Run.......

Me and my Bro are riding to Sturgis, around an 850 mile trip there. Just going to take us and the bikes loaded down with clothes and a tent. This is going to be both of ours first long distance ride, what are some common things that you forget to bring, wish you would have done different, what to check on your ride, oh and of course we are going to stay at the Broken Spoke Campgrounds, where to go in Sturgis? and what to see?

Congrats on your first trip it is a beautiful place. We always tried to log at least 300-500 miles per day riding around the black hills. You have a ton to pick from...
Rushmore, Devils Tower, Crazy Horse, Wall Drug, Badlands, Custer State Park, The Pig Tails, Main St. in Sturgis, HD display at the Convention Center in Rapid City... Plus too much more to list.

Doc14,
Have a blast on your first 'long' road-trip! Remember to stop and enjoy the sights along the way! Pictures will provide a lasting memory of the road-trip!

If you 'do' forget something, there are plenty of places to get stuff. There's a Wal-Mart in Spearfish as well as a few down in Rapid City.

Before you set out...make sure you go over all the nuts / bolts, etc. just to make sure everything is tight. If your tires are 'close'...you might be consider bringing $$ to have them replaced while in Sturgis because you will do a lot of riding.

Other than that...just have a great time! See in the Black Hills!

I went and did the entire distance in 26hrs stopping to sleep at a rest area for two hours. I regret not taking any pictures. Take pictures of everything. And dont waste money on crap you dont need. Like a hotel is a watse of money. Bring your own beer and water and food. They jack the prices way up in sturgis and rapid city and dead wood. I would definatly sujest you take a GPS so you can cruise the back roads. And for the most part dont let anything bother you have fun and enjoy everything.

Lots and lots of sun screen. Put some on all exposed skin every single stop. If you feel like you're starting to burn while you're out on the road between stops, stop at the next exit and put more sun screen on, don't wait for the next gas stop as that will be way too late. I use some "sport spray" stuff on my ears and face. It isn't greasy.

Don't know where in OK you are, but I try to avoid Nebraska whenever possible. We're going up 29 to 90. Otherwise, go through Denver.
