I used HD Syn 3 for the 1st 12,000 miles in all 3 holes. 6,000 miles ago switched to Mobil 1 V-Twin syn 20W-50 in engine and primary, 75W-90 syn gear oil in tranny. The clutch does not slip, and the tranny does shift smoother. You'll be a-ok with the combination you mentioned.
That is exactly why I come to this forum. Everyone's responses to my questions were helpful and insightful. Thank you for also addressing my concern about possible clutch slippage. I appreciate everyone's thorough and detailed resonses. Tomorrow I will get the bike up on my lift and change the fluids.
Lastly, I think I'll skip the Amsoil idea for the time being, unless I happen to find a local distributor who I can purchase the stuff from in the future.
I use Mobil 1 15w-50 in the motor, a 10w-40 castrol 4T or any other motorcycle oil that's on sale in the primary, and 75w-140 in the tranny. I'm happy with how it works. The mobil 1 website says to use 10w-40 mxt in the primary and their 20w-50 in the motor. I would but 15w-50 is half the price.
I run the Royal Purple 140 in the trans,Mobile 140 will be fine also, for the primary I still like the Harley primary oil,I run V Twin 20-50 in both my bikes.
I got a good deal on Mobil 1 15w50, so I put in my primary as well as my crankcase. I like it a lot in the crankcase, but my clutch grabbed a lot more with M1. I went back to HD Formula + in the primary and it feels a lot better. I will probably try a cheap 10w40 to see if it performs as well a Formula + just to save a few pennys. But I like Formula + in the primary.
I use Belray 85/140 in tranny and it works great. Smooth shifting and quiet. I put HD formula in the primary and switched from Mobil1 to Castrol GTX 20/50 dino juice for the engine because it's half the price and will work just fine. Screw it.
I use amzoil 20/50 full sythetic in engine and primary and had belray 75/140 in tranny. dealer just told my that that is too thick for the tranny, says it will starve it. Makes no sense to me but they are currently replacing my tranny main shaft and bearings they went out on the primary side.
Running Amsoil in my tranny, 140. Using up my synth3 in the motor now, have 3 qts so I will use that for the primary and Amsoil 20W 50 will be in motor in about 200 miles....
Tranny shifts OK but I honestly don't notice an improvement. Its only been about 700 miles so I will see how it goes.
