They all do somewhat. Just change the oil to something like Redline Shockproof Heavy and ride the crap out of it.

5th gear on my 09 EGlide wines to much. Kind of annoying but you get used to it. I have heard other people complain about 4th gear making noise. The other gears are quiet. On my 00 Softail all 5 gears are quiet.

First and fifth gears on 6 speeds are straight cut gears. The rest are helical cut gears (slanted teeth). Straight cut gears will whine more.... that's why a standard trans car whines in reverse if you push it.. straight cut gears in reverse. No big deal in any case.

Run it until it's at operating temp and then drain the trans. Check the magnet for metal. Small flakes are normal, CHUNKS are BAD!! It is normal to have a some fuzz or a few flakes. If it looks normal then don't worry.

Refill the trans with Redline V-twin transmission oil.

You WILL notice a difference.

I buy my Redline online in a "Powerpack" kit with all the oil I need for all 3 holes. http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/c...y/Red_Line_Oil

The HD tranny is a piece of shyt, they know it, could fix it, don't care, pretty simple. Running a good 75/140 syn gear lube will help it some, but the only real fix is to replace it with a good S&S or Baker gear box. Once you change, you will never go back.
