I went the classic route instead of the standard because of the way it looked on the showroom floor. I'm wishing now I had hard bags instead of the leather ones and they are pretty expensive to add on after-the-fact. One thing about the classic over the standard is the cruise. I actually thought that was something I wouldn't use. Boy was I wrong!!! I use it all the time and it is one of the best options IMO. The WWWs and spokes look nice when they are clean but I probably wouldn't miss them if they weren't there. If I was doing it over again, I'd probably go the standard route and just add cruise.
i have a 02 King classic (hard bags) and love it. From long *** rides (2 up) to day rides. Since it is built on the same frame as the "cush" tourers, it still is a tourer and you can make the bike into or whatever you like. Enjoy, welcome and safe riding .... and one nice suprise i had when i first got mine, the chicks came out of the wood work
Still reading? this is my first Harley also. I was going to start with a sportster or softtail. Wife wanted a full dresser. Road King is middle ground. Good choice. Allways have something in the bags. But you can still tool around town and not look like your on a trip.
You have a winner in the RKC. I have the 07 and it was my first HD. Glad I made the purchase. Added the Rhinehart true duels. They added a little more power. I would agree with the others; the handlebars are uncomfortable on long rides. The bike is heavier than the Enduro, but you will get use to it. The bike handles well and has great acceleration.
You will go broke with all the upgrades. Most come up with a theme for their bike and add accordingly.
PICS are attached below.

Well as per a sugestion, here is a picture of it when I picked it up.
Only change from then to now is I removed the flags and poles as I will have to keep it under a cover untill I can build a barn to keep it in.
