Default Thinking about a Road King

Hello all. I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

Had a sporster back in the 80's and now I'm finally in a position to be able to buy a bike again. I really like the looks of the road kings.

I've got a few questions. I'd like to buy a used bike with around 10k miles, but how many miles is too many? meaning I want to ride for a while before a lot of maintenance.
And is there a good source of what to look for when buying a used bike? I've been lookin around the web but haven't found anything real useful.

Here are a couple bikes on the forum that I've been lookin at. Thanks.

Bought my 05 RKC off of Craigslist a year ago. Everyone's standards are different, but I think you'll know whether or not you can be comfortable with your potential purchase by assesing the total suroundings of the bikes current owner. Anyone can wash a bike, but if the house, yard, cars, etc. look unkept, be leary, IMO.
I am sure others will chime in with details to look for beyond listening to the bike run, and I'll leave that to those who know more than I do. The surroundings of the past owner of my bike turned out to be fortutitous, and I have a great bike that was well taken care of today.
Good luck in your search. I could not be more happy with my King.

Ain't nothing wrong with a "KING", and I don't even have the latest version. But the wife and I still love ours!

I have an older king, quite happy with it when bought, happier with it as I mod it to me.

Default Older King here as well.

I looked long and hard, when I finally realized how versatile the Road King is... and that lead me to find some really nice used bikes.

I got real lucky and found a sweet 2002 with full documentation of every aspect of the bikes history plus it had been build out from an 88 to a 107.

So I second the comment about asking the owner many..many questions.

So get a Road King..you can't go wrong.

If I were you and picking between the two of the bikes you are looking at I would choose the second. Just don't think the apes would be a good way to start on a touring bike. And 25k on the second bike is nothing as long as the maintenance has been done properly. Both nice bikes and you can not go wrong with a Road King. I would also look in your area on craigslist. I love my Road King!!!!

I just bought a 2001 Road King with 24K miles off Craigslist for $8500.... couldn't be happier! I had a Sportster back in 1983, the difference between the RK and the XLX is amazing... you'll love the Road King!

I have a newer 09' and I love how sturdy the new frame is. I would not get one with more than about 20K miles if I were u on buying a used one. These bikes last a long time but depends on how u ride and take care of it.
