Default lowers

Hey guys need help. Was at the stealers today checking on the cupping on my front tire and was talking to the service manager( which unlike alot of them I read about on this forum) is a great guy to deal with in fact Reno HD is one of the good guys. anyway he said now that it's summer I ought to pull my lowers off of my '09 UC and I know this has been beaten to death but I want your opinion. He says bike will run cooler gas mileage will go up let alot more air in. Should I pull em or not, that is the question? thanks
Santa

Unless they are just to hot for you I'd leave them on, mine stay on year round on my Road Glide, and they don't have any vents

I bought my 06 Ultra in May 06 and they have never been off. I lived in Indiana for 2 1/2 years before moving here to Puerto Rico. It gets hot here too. I put an oil cooler on it and use Mobil 1 oil and change it every 5,000 miles. With a set of JR Origionals heat shields, all is well. For me, if you ride in all weather, rain or not, I use mine almost every day here in the tropics for rain and such. Just my $.02 Dan

I pulled the black plastic sliding deflectors out of my lowers a couple days ago. Left the painted part of the lowers still on the bike since I use the glove boxes regularly. Very happy with the result. Looks like it opened the front wide open, as compared to when the deflectors were installed.

Have been commuting in 100 degree temps the last couple days and it seems to help.

Take care,
Dave

Year round for me too - looks to me like they would direct a blast of air onto the motor anyway. And yes, RJ's solve any heat problem for seating.

I took mine off once. I was a little cooler, but the motor actually ran a little warmer. (I have an oil temp gauge to confirm this.) It seems the lowers direct the flow of air over the motor better... After I put speakers in my glove boxes, I never take the lowers off. If I'm warm, I just throw my feet up on the highway pegs.

Leave mine on year round, vents open in the summer, closed in the winter.
