Is the only inprovement on the G4 over the Q2 the improved range? I was planning on getting the Q2 multiset for my dad and me, but we are rarely too far from each other whicle riding, so I dont think it would be worth the wait.
That seals the deal, I was thinking about doing the same thing with the tape, just didn't remember if the mic was 2 sided or not. Did you tape both mics or just the passenger.
Mics are 2 sided and we put tape on both sets since we sometimes ride the FatBoy with the windshield off. Put a dab of whiteout on the boom side that's been taped so in case it gets turned you know which side faces front
Mine will automatically answer the phone (I use it for phone only) and I have to be doing less than 40 MPH to have a conversation. I have a hearing loss on the right side (20,000 hours of helicopter time will do that to you) so I am going to try putting both speakers on the same side to see if I can hear at higher speeds.
The person on the other end of the call will comment on wind noise but that goes away if I put the visor down.
They have the best customer service I have ever encountered.
Buddy and i took them on a trip and they were great bike to bike. We both ride with full-face helmets so wind wasnt an issue. They connect over a pretty long distance, several hundred yards in the flat desert. They hook up whenever they are in range.
Havent worked as well going through my zumo with the phone, but from what i'm reading, that's a zumo issue.
Can you elaborate on what kind of problem you're having with the phone? I have a Zumo & the older Scala Team Rider set. The Zumo to Scala bluetooth works flawlessly, but I've always had a problem with loosing bluetooth connectivity with the phone. I recently started using the Zumo in a car & noticed it never looses connectivity with the phone. I thought it might be the car mount, but Garmin thinks it might be the Scala.
There is a newer one scala one (I think the G3?) that is compatible with the Q2's that has 1000' distance in lieu of 500'.
As far as the questions, battery life (while paired) is at least 8 hours on ours. I don't go 2up and use it rider to rider with a buddy. I have a half-helmet and it doesn't bother either of us. I also can hear the tunes of the other bike but it's mild and doesn't interfere with my own tunes. I guess it depends on how sensitive/irritable you are to background noise. Having kids, I am accustomed to tuning out background noise and the Scala Rider isn't even close to my little angels.
One other thing I have posted before on this subject that seemed to help someone was that remember the Scala Rider comes with 2 different wind socks for the microphone. One is flat on two sides (which I believe it comes outta the box with this one on), and one is more rounded. The Flat one is for full-face helmets, the rounded one is for open-faced. Make sure you put the proper one on your headset to get the maximum benefit.
The Scala Rider Q2 headset I consider to be one of the most valued purchases I have made as far as bike accessories go. Makes the trips way more fun and as someone said, you can verbally alert your pals to potential hazards.
+1 on the customer service I'd bought a new 1/2 helmet this winter and needed another glue plate.Called the US head office to see where I could pick one up They sent me the complete unit boom mic and all for nothing.I've got mine paired up with a 550 Zumo and cell phone occasionally, when expecting an important call. Can't beat getting directions and not watching a screen.Volume's good for me at any speed over V&Hines Bigshot duals.Haven't paired it up with another Q2 yet.I've heard Scala's coming out with stereo so might want to shop around.

I'm not sure of all the improvements. I was talking to one of their employees at Americade and they all had some to use early in the year. They sent recomendations in for improvements and are waiting for the final product.
