I bought my 09 RKC, and had the stage II, 103" build done before I ever rode the bike. I DID rent a couple of stock 96" RKCs prior to buying. Also, this is not my first harley. So I am familiar with the difference in power. I don't pretend to be a mechanic, and I am not looking to own the fastest bike around. Bottom line, my bike is a blast to ride. Tons of torque and power. When I get into the throttle the bike rips you back into the seat. That's all I wanted,, a big dumb grin when I grab a handful
The numbers are below......if they mean anything to you....I posted them in my sig so others could see what I'm riding, but my bike was fun to ride before and after I had it on the dyno
Oh!!! Forgot to mention that I have NOT had any problems starting my bike. I only have 4,000 miles on it, so maybe that will pop up later. I don't know, but so far it starts hot, cold, whatever.....and I live and ride in S. Texas, so it definitely is cooking on a long ride.
I'm doing the 103 sometime along here and will not be using any compression releases. A rule of thumb is anything 10 and over for compression needs releases.
Mine is at 9.8 and will kick if its hot, glad I did releases. IMO they are cheep insurance.
103 Stage V. The CR on the rear head sticks from time to time on start up, but only for a few seconds after it fires. It takes about a minute before it runs smoothly. I'll be taking it back to the builder next week for a fix.
Dyno tune turned 108hp/121tq.
14k miles in a bit over a year, not a single problem. I can ask the new owner if thats still the case, but I have not heard anything from him othewise, and its been about a year since he's had the bike.
Ever since one of the members suggested starting the bike right away (ie not waiting for the fuel pump to finish pressurizing and the light to go out) I have not had the kick-back at all -- and its been super hot here lately (90-100 every day). The ONLY time I had the kick back in the last couple of months was when I waited for the fuel pump to finish pressurizing, and the kickback was loud and clear. Save your money, start it right away.
No other issues other than louder valve noises. ("normal" with a 255 cam, I'm told)
I have 30K on my 08; 7 of those with the HD 103 Stage 3. The power increase was good for me as I wasn't looking for a screamer. I did have problems with the first tune causing some detonation. A new tune by an expert fixed that. I do have hard start issues on occasion like another poster said if I start it as soon as I turn the key she fires right up. If I were doing it again with 255s I would install manual CRs.
