I recommend layers or electric gear. We had snow in the hills last week and now it's in the high 80s. The road between Lake Louise and Jasper is among the prettiest in North America but the wildlife at night is plentiful so plan on shutting down well before dark to stay safe.
We live in the Calgary area and if you need any help while you're here, give me a shout (pm me for contact info).
nd has been pretty cool and wet this year.lows in the low 50s highs in the high 60s.road to beartooth last weekend with a t shirt and 1 to 2 long sleves wore leather about 2 hours.last couple of years ive just been doin trips with multple long sleeves and my ain gear.its lighter and packs smaller than the leather.glacier rocks
You do have to plan for hot below and cooler at the top. You can always bungy the heavier stuff if your too warm. Best to be prepaired either way. Weather is sure been strange all over lately.
If you have never been Glacier it is awesome!!!!
+1 Just got back last week, we went from our first gear jacket to a shirt then rain gear going out. Just a little taste.
Cap - great shots. As I'm heading in that direction in about 3 weeks, care to tell me where those shots were taken?
thanks, The first one is of Goose Island that is located up by St. Mary, the one with the boat in it is down by the Apgar center the Goat is right at Logan Pass we went thru arond 3 p.m. and the one of my wife and our friend was taken about 2 miles from Apgar. All in the park. You will love it.
Between Glacier and Banff, I'd highly recommend Hwy 22, the so-called Cowboy Trail.
Three of us made the trip in 2005. Weather, like folks said above varied greatly.
My son at Many Glaciers, GNP
Somewhere on the Cowboy Trail, Hwy 22
Big damn horn at Lake Louise, AB
"Daddy I'm cold and seen enough glaciers."
"OK, son. I told you that mesh jacket would suck. Let's ride down to Vegas, I think it's warmer there."

I am heading to the NW in late August. We ride to the Rockies every labor day. Heavy wool socks, long johns, jeans, shirts, water/wind proof insulated pants and jacket, and Gerbings Electric works for us. I still like to take my leather for those times when it is in the 60's and 70's and not raining.
