I need some advice : We are going out through North Dakota to Glacier NTL park and then up to Banff in Canada next week , What kind of temps can we expect ? I am trying to decide on clothing ( leather or layered light jacket ) we are trying not to take to much extra baggage.
You do have to plan for hot below and cooler at the top. You can always bungy the heavier stuff if your too warm. Best to be prepaired either way. Weather is sure been strange all over lately.
I have not done that trip on a bike YET, but we just got back from an Alaska and Canada cruise. All the riders from Vancouver to Ankorage were wearing quality cold whether gear. The BMW guys where wearing textile gear while the Harley folks where wearing full leather.
Hey Scooty - I'm about two weeks behind you, heading in that direction after Sturgis. During the day on the bike it should be pretty warm, but you always want to be prepared.
My wife and I did that trip last Sept. we had great weather but be prepared for anything .You will love the Going to the Sun HWY in Glacier. As far as Banff and Canadian Rockies I can't think of more spectaculer place .I tell people it's like Yosemite on steriods and lots of wildlife .When you go from Banff up to Lake Lousie take HWY 1A the old HWY instead of HWY1. have a great time be safe.
here is link of our route http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...3,9.854736&z=7
We're heading to Glacier mid-August. Will bring cool-weather clothes, rain gear and summer stuff cause you never know. Banff is one of the most beautiful places in North America. You'll love it! Ride safe and watch for wildlife.
I'm jealous, sounds like a great trip and one that's been on my list of things to do for a long, long time.
Harley's FXRG textile gear is very good, and workable from 30 degrees to about 80 degrees (with the liner in and out). It would be what I would take. Throw in some rain gear and your set.
